Reasons to consider a professional installation
My apologies for the poor quality of this photo, I forgot my camera and had to use my cell phone for the shot.
As you can see it is very important to follow each and every step during a self installation of a putting green. Each step requires directions to be followed precisely.
This green did not have the proper base installation such as correct depth, correct materials, correct leveling, correct pitch, or correct base edging. Over just a short period of time, the owners found themselves with a green filled with mold, slime and ripples. Not ideal conditions for practicing putts on a High School putting green.
Shanachie Greens came in, removed the old green, installed the proper base edging, installed the proper base, and used the customers extra rolls of turf (unused and left over from their original purchase of
this old green). In the photo below you can still see the old rolls of turf in the background.
This photo was taken on the final day of installation (before clean-up). Ontario-Mansfield High School now has a properly installed putting green on their grounds.
While you can save some money doing a self install, many times this decision will end up costing you more in the long-run. Make sure you understand each and every step of the installation process and never cut corners. There is a considerable amount of time, planning, and preparation involved with each green.
If you still feel you want to do the installation yourself, consider our consultation service available with our Build-A-Greens.
