Turning a vision into a reality

Our customer in Kirtland Hills had a unique vision. A green in the woods with a feel of the Old Links at St. Andrews. This beautiful 1500+ sq. ft. Shanachie Green is based on the combined 4 and 14th holes at St. Andrews, with slight adjustments to incorporate the lay of the land.  Tee boxes are set back in the woods allowing a wide range of skill shots to the green.

Lower your handicap
Any time of year!

Winter has settled in here in the Northeast. But that doesn’t mean you can’t think about lowering your handicap next year!

Jan. 5, 2010 - 14 degrees, 18 inches

In order to lower your handicap you have to improve your game. To improve your game, you have to practice.

This is the perfect time to start thinking about what part of your game needs the most work. For most golfers, it’s the short game. And to fix your short game, you need to have easy daily access to a putting green! Imagine stepping out of your back door and stepping on to your own personal putting green! No traffic, no fees, no lines. It’s just you and your green.

A Shanachie Green offers you all the benefits of a real green without all the hassle and upkeep. Shanachie Greens also is the only company to offer HEATED greens for year round play.

In 2005 I installed my first green in my back yard.   The following year I placed first in my golf league. In 2007, I installed a heated green in my front yard. I practiced on the heated green daily last winter and ended up placing first in our golf league and lowering my handicap from a 5.7 to a 3.9.

Plan ahead now for the 2010 install season.  Mention our blog and save $300. off your quoted price.

A yard is just a yard if you don’t have a Shanachie Green!

About Infill (Sand vs. Coal Slag)

The easiest way to explain the difference is to show you. Each of these greens are 3 years old.

There is a huge difference between coal slag and sand infilled products. Simply said, sand infilled greens clump, hold water, accept seeds (thus growing weeds/trees/etc) and mold. Sand infilled greens also are higher maintenance and need to be re-infilled yearly. Read more »

About Turf (Nylon vs. Poly)

Shanachie Greens only works with one product. Manufactured by All Pro Greens, the turf is the highest density polypropylene and is the best on the market. There are ‘chain’ companies out there (or franchises) that sell a variety of different greens at different prices from very cheap to very expensive. In other words, they will sell you whatever price range you are in. Cheap greens (nylon/no double backing/rubber/foam) to more pricey greens (polypropylene). Then they go and infill the greens with sand. Which pretty much put you back to square one because as we’ve already stated, sand infilled greens do not even compare to those filled with coal slag.

With that said, let’s look at the different types of turf out there:
